2010 College Football Progress Report A look at another unpredictable season ne of the fascinating aspects of college football is that anything can happen, and this year is no exception. The Heisman race is still up in the air; among the frontrunners are Michigan’s Denard Robinson, last year’s winner Mark Ingram, Boise State’s Kellen Moore, Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor and Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett. There could be some all-time records broken this year. Houston’s Case Keenum has a shot at the all-time career passing record, and Navy’s quarterback Ricky Dobbs could capture a rushing record or two.
And on the subject Oof Navy versus Air Force, the battle between these two service academies is unbelievable. I say this because in 2002 AFA won 48-7, and then the following happened: 2003: Navy 28-25 2004: Navy 24-21 2005: Navy 27-24 2006: Navy 24-17 2007: Navy 31-20 2008: Navy 22-27 2009: Navy 16-13 …with the winner earning the coveted Commander in Chief’s Trophy, along with a trip to Washington, D.C., 3KRWR86$)$6,' to meet the president of the United States. What other college rivalry can you name in which the average margin of victory for the past seven games was 4.7 points, with four of these games being decided by a single field goal!
This year, finally, the Fighting Falcons broke the Midshipmen’s winning streak, coming through with a 14-6 victory. Unfortunately, the 2005 award was declared vacant due to violations surrounding Reggie Bush. But this is college football, and as we’ve said, “Anything can happen!” 3KRWR861$6,' Navy defeated Air Force for seven years, 2003- 2009, but this year Air Force finally broke that string with a 14-6 victory. Leading their respective teams are quarterbacks Tim Jefferson for Air Force and Ricky Dobbs for Navy.
