Athletes at this California school are enjoying all aspects of what BFS has to offer If you are reading this and are over the age of 40, do you remember when you would drive up to get gas and be swarmed by servicemen who would fill up your tank for a few dollars, check your oil and tire pressure and clean your windows? Ah yes, the good ol' days. Although we're not likely to ever see such service again at the gas station, BFS has not forgotten the value of being a full-service company. Yes, BFS sells exercise equipment – but we do so much more.

Take, for example, this April when BFS Clinicians Evan Ayres and Lance Neven were involved in helping to equip and install a new weightroom at Schurr High School in Montebello, California, and also running a one-day clinic and a BFS certification. It was a big job, but they really delivered. Likewise, Schurr High School has a history of great service in the community. Schurr began as a junior high school, but population growth in the area mandated its becoming a high school in 1971. Academically, Schurr has made great strides. The school's Academic Performance Index (APR) increased from 630 to 677 during the 2004-2005 school year, and by nine more points the following year.

In athletics, the Spartans compete in 13 major sports and are known for their strong football and wrestling programs. What do our clinicians think about their experience at Schurr High School? “The kids were very well behaved and respectful, which surprised me since the school was located in a very urban area near downtown Los Angeles,” says Ayres. BY KIM GOSS “The coaching staff have really done a great job, and with their willingness to get better I foresee Schurr High School having a bright future. They have great kids, good facilities and a coaching staff that truly cares about the program and its improvement.”
