Another great BFS High School Weightroom makeover

Championship Weightrooms: Orchard View High School Another great BFS high school weightroom makeover The Athletic Department at Orchard View High School in Muskegon, Michigan, has developed a sound philosophy that is worth hearing: “We, the Orchard View Athletic Department, feel that our athletic program plays an integral part in the educational growth of our young people. It is our desire to provide a program to meet the needs of all our students. “Our desire is to provide an atmosphere that will encourage youngsters to give forth their best qualities during their school life. Hopefully these will carry over into adulthood.

These qualities we speak about include leadership, intelligence, teamwork, and an appreciation for fitness. Through athletics, good judgment, endurance, initiative, courage, dependability, enthusiasm, and self-improvement can be achieved by the individuals participating in our programs with sound guidance from the coaching staff, teachers, administrators and parents cooperating to help youngsters develop into responsible adults.”

If you are an athlete at Orchard View, you will treat your rival a little better than you would like to be treated; you will do your best for yourself and our school, whether you beat him/her or not; you will do nothing before, during, or after the game to forfeit your opponents’ respect, hurt your school’s reputation, or your own self-respect. No teammate, no captain, or coach can be made responsible for your honor. In questions of fair play, you are your own captain, your own coach, your own whole team, and need never be defeated.

If you, as an individual, follow this philosophy, your personal values (beliefs, concepts and attitudes) in the field of athletics, as in life, need never be questioned.” With such a great attitude, Orchard View was the perfect site for a BFS weightroom makeover. In January 2006 Athletic Administrator Hal Holman started working with BFS Regional Director Evan Ayres in developing a weightroom that would fulfill the needs of both the physical education curriculum and the sports teams. In mid-July the school placed their order, and soon Coach Ayres was on his way to Michigan to supervise the installation. The following pages show the impressive results of these efforts!
